Code 5 Lead Flashing (3m & 6m Rolls)

Code 5 lead flashing is widely used for bays, valleys, parapets and large exposed weatherings where additional thickness and durability are required. Available in 3m and 6m rolls, it is the go-to choice for heavier-duty leadwork across both domestic and commercial roofing.

At approximately 2.24mm thick and 25.4kg/m², Code 5 offers improved resistance to movement stress and long-term fatigue compared to lighter codes such as Code 4 lead. This makes it ideal for wider spans, high exposure areas and demanding roof detailing.

Code 5 lead uses • bays • gutters • parapets

Where is Code 5 lead typically used?

Code 5 lead is typically selected for bay roofs, parapet weatherings, lead gutters, wide aprons, back gutters and more demanding exposed lead details. It offers a useful step up from Code 4 lead, giving greater thickness and stiffness while remaining practical to form and install on site.

Compared with lighter lead codes, Code 5 is better suited to roofing details that are wider, more exposed or subject to greater movement over time. It is often the preferred choice where standard flashing lead is not quite enough, but where moving up again to Code 6 lead would be unnecessarily heavy for the application. If you need to compare sizes quickly, use the lead chart before ordering.

Typical Code 5 lead applications

  • Bay roofs and canopies within sensible bay sizes
  • Parapet and cornice weatherings
  • Lead gutters, back gutters, sumps and outlets
  • Wider aprons and deeper abutment details
  • Upstands around dormers, rooflights and penetrations
  • Heritage and refurbishment work where a more robust lead weathering is required

Why choose Code 5 over Code 4 or Code 6?

  • Heavier and stiffer than Code 4 lead for more exposed applications
  • Well suited to bays, gutters and wider weatherings
  • More practical than heavier codes for many medium-duty roofing details
  • Strong balance between durability and workability
  • A logical middle ground before moving up to Code 6 lead for heavier-duty applications

Bay roofs

Code 5 is commonly used on bay roofs where the lead detail is more substantial than standard flashing work and where additional thickness helps improve long-term performance, especially when jointing and movement have been designed properly.

Gutters and parapets

Lead gutters and parapet weatherings often benefit from Code 5 because it provides a more robust sheet for exposed positions, wider details and areas where water flow, laps and drips must all be handled correctly.

Wider exposed weatherings

Where an apron, back gutter or abutment becomes wider or more demanding, Code 5 often provides the right step up from Code 4 without immediately moving into heavier specialist codes.

Code 5 vs other lead codes

Lead code Approx. thickness Approx. mass Typical use
Code 4 Lead 1.80mm 20.4kg/m² General flashings, stepped flashings and lighter exposed weatherings
Code 5 Lead 2.24mm 25.4kg/m² Bays, parapets, gutters, wide aprons, back gutters and more demanding exposed roofing details
Code 6 Lead 2.65mm 30.0kg/m² Heavier-duty bays, parapets, gutters and larger roofing details
Code 5 lead used on low pitched bay roof detailing
Code 5 lead is widely used for bay roof detailing where wider leadwork and exposed weathering demand added durability.
Code 5 lead used for chimney stack flashing work and exposed roofing details
Code 5 lead can also be used for larger and more robust exposed roofing details where standard flashing lead may be too light.
